Priority Associates - The Da Vinci Code Project
Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Da Vinci Code's movie rating?

PG-13

What is Priority Associates' Target Audience for this event?
This event is geared to spiritually mature Christians, who are called to become equipped to engage in conversations around The Da Vinci Code with non-Christians. We feel this movie will provide many opportunities for discussion of Biblical truth, as is will be a very popular topic of conversation in the secular world. It presents a very easy opportunity to engage in conversations about the Bible, Jesus, and Church history. It will present opportunities not only to defend a Christian world view, but to invite people to explore the Truth. Christians need not fear a quest for Truth whatsoever, but rather welcome it, encourage it, and be equipped to share the Truth.

Why would I want to see this movie, which I understand contains error and heresy?
(See the discussion of 'Target Audience'). We feel that not everyone is called to see The Da Vinci Code. We do feel that all Christians are called to "in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15). Some, but certainly not all, Christians will be called to see the movie in order to be equipped to give such answers. Others may want to see it purely for its entertainment value. For either, we offer a way to see the movie and immediately hear the Truths about Jesus, the Bible, and Church history which are in counterpoint to much of the movie's contents.

Why would I refrain from seeing the movie?
The movie promises to be highly entertaining. But, this very fact is of concern. The 'back story' for the movie is a rendition of history that is at odds with a Christian world view. Frankly, many Christians are not familiar with many of the historical points brought out in the movie, and it would be very easy for history as presented in the movie to be accepted as fact. We strongly recommend that only spiritually mature Christians, and those willing to really 'Seek the Truth' (the movie's own tag line) see this movie.

Should I allow my child to see The Da Vinci Code?
Due to the movie's PG-13 rating, no small children should be allowed to see The Da Vinci Code. For teens who do see it, it will contain statements and assertions about Biblical history and theology that are at odds with a Christian world view. It will present an entertaining but warped view of facts that are fundamental to our understanding of who Jesus was, and is, and of the Bible and Church history. We recommend that only teens who are mature emotionally and spiritually attend. Parents should attend with their teens (or before), and be equipped and plan to discuss the erroneous points of the movie. Just as we hope to use this movie as a springboard for conversation with believers, it can also be a springboard for parents to discuss their faith with their children. But, caution is advised!

What are some scriptures that Priority Associates stands on for this event?

  • 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
  • Ephesians 4:14 (NLT)
Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NASB)
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
  • Colossians 2:8 (NLT)
Don't let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ.
